About Us

Kim enjoys spending time with her dogs, cats, and birds. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, landscaping, craft shows, and watching movies. She tries to learn something new every day and loves to hear stories.

This practice was founded by Kim Cafaro, a nurse practitioner born and raised in Iowa. She earned her BA in Psychology from Loras College, followed by a Master of Management from the UoP. She attended Allen College, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and a post-graduate certificate. She attended the University of Iowa to work on her Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Kim has been a nurse practitioner since 2013, working previously as a travel nurse in Medical Intensive Care Units (MICUs) throughout the United States. She started her career as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner working at Yale-New Haven Hospital MICUs and has worked in a variety of medical settings to gain experience—spinal orthopedics, hospice, and palliative care with the Mayo Clinic hospital system.

Kim continued to feel a calling towards mental health, having found time to utilize her abilities no matter where she worked. Her first formal Psych NP job was at the VA hospital where she developed a passion for understanding PTSD, its treatments, and the various mental health issues of veterans due to the military culture. She noted that many of these same issues translated to those who work as first responders in the form of occupational-related stress and trauma.

She performed C&P disability exams for the VBA for 3 years before deciding to return to her first love—mental health.

Her passion drives her to help others. With Foxhole Health & Consulting, she can continue to do the work she loves without compromising her integrity for corporate gains.

Full disclosure: My brother, mother, and grandfathers served in the military. I took the ASVAB and went through MEPS, but I did not serve in the military. I watched my grandfather, a WWII POW, suffer from PTSD his entire life.
